Hi guys!
I’ve been trying matched betting for a month part-time (at most) and quite frankly I think it’s very worth doing, despite the limited success I’ve had so far! I’ve made a couple of mistakes because of the odds on the bookmakers were so bad that I’d get only a 50% retention or something like that…the way I was trying to work around it was by putting the Lay bet first and wait for the bookmaker’s odd to catchup given that we are targetting underdogs for the profit rush phase. In theory, it would make sense to wait a bit for the odd adjustment but it already failed me twice and wiped virtually the profits for the month (which were £120 or something), and it also removes the risk-free nature of matched betting.
So, I think we’ll all agree that it’s very hard to find good retention these days so my question is, should I wait to finish my welcome offers when the big sports are back or should I just keep going and be happy with crappy retention? What’s the lowest retention you guys are willing to take? I’m only doing welcome offers for now, and still have the big Bet365 one that I feel would be somehow wasted if I don’t get decent retention.

I would not recommend laying the bet before backing it with the bookmaker. That’s not a good idea and leaves yourself open to losing a lot.
Sport is starting to come back so you won’t have to wait long if you decide but why not just look for good matches and only strike bets then? There is no rush.

Finding close odds on international racing is a cross between a fine art, good luck and experience in recognising a steamer. Not only will it be easier, I’m reasonably sure that the books will be aware of the extra business out there and may well be vying to get their share..
