    Hello fellow match bettors/arbers,

    My questions are:

    • Has anyone ever had an account promo ban lifted?
    • What do bookmakers look for to ban accounts?
    • Overall profit/loss?
    • amount of promotions used?
    • Overall bonus bets accumulated over lifetime?
    • turnover (money constantly bet each week/month)?
    • average odds of bets placed (high odds vs low odds)?
    • Do the odds usually drop after you place the bet?
    • Getting the closest match on horse racing usually involves a sudden price drop on the exchange?

I have 5 promotion banned accounts and have been match betting for 4 months. When speaking to their customer service, most of them say the traders review accounts every 6 months. Has anyone ever had a ban lifted? One would think that for this to happen, your account would have to prove itself profitable (i.e. constantly losing money) to the traders for them to remove the ban.

On a side note. One of the ways I got promo banned was taking advantage of the price boost on horse racing on a single race (Royal Ascot). I found that the market price for a horse was roughly around 8.0. However, this bookmaker offered it at 10.0, with a price boost to 12.0. After realizing this, I placed $500 on the horse, and layed it off at 8.0 to make a profit of $200. (I had $5000 in my account to match it). My bet was referred to the traders and got accepted. The horse lost anyway but closer to the start the market price dropped to 6.0. A day later I got an email explaining that I was promo banned. My usual stakes on horse racing is $50-$100 so I guess that’s what set them off plus their price mistake? Don’t understand why the trader still accepted lol.

Also, im pretty sure using exact stakes (e.g. $16.32) makes it easier for bookies to identify you. I got promo banned on Ladbrokes 4 days after signing up. I bet very specific amounts on their promos, mostly $2 favorites. My overall profit/loss on the account was -$500.  As a result, I started rounding my stakes to whole numbers and this kept other accounts from being banned quickly. Although, Ladbrokes is known to ban people quicker than other bookies. Usually, if you use their promos too often, they give you a warning email to change up your betting activity. However, I was directly promo banned without and warnings.

Any advice is more than welcome.

    Happy Match Betting!

    Hello David,

I have heard that in some instances the bigger firms have started un-gubbing certain accounts. What the review criteria is I do not know but it makes sense because they now know they have restricted too many accounts sometimes including normal bettors.

You’re asking questions that many of us would like answers to. From what I can gather, there are only two reasons that bookies will gubb your accounts; either you are only betting when it’s a special offer or that you are a threat to profits. I’ve been told by several bookmakers (as I have plenty of gubbed accounts) that they accounts are reviewed periodically and there is a chance that it might become unrestricted again.  It hasn’t happened yet.  On one particularly bookmakers website I was gubbed I continued to use it for the irish lottery as me and my family have been playing it for years.  I got gubbed understandably as I was using a service that had inside info to predict sharp drops in odds.  So I’d stick £200 E/W on a horse, then when the price dropped I’d cash out for at least double the money before the race ran.  I can understand getting gubbed for this, it’s not a fair practice. However, I continued playing Irish Lottery through the website and a year later I emailed asking for my restriction to be lifted even a bit, and also said I was aware why I was gubbed and that I wouldn’t do it again, or they could even remove cash out from me.  They refused to budge.  I then emailed saying I’d stop playing the Irish Lottery, which was probably worth around £1100 a year for them assuming I continued my losing 5 year losing streak and I’ve not heard from them since. I’d suggest un-gubbing would only happen where it was a mistake in the first place.

I had a number of accounts gubbed as far back as December 2017 and the restrictions were never lifted. I talked to a couple of them recently via live chat to close the accounts and they weren’t interested in reinstating, even after all that time.
