Anyone been trying this?
I have been trialing it lately and stepped up my stakes this afternoon with some good success.

I have done it before and found it’s better to do it later in the second half if teams get desperate. I just don’t have time to watch the games so stopped doing it may try again.
November 24, 2019 at 12:48 am #14913L0UMemberWhen I had a fully functional BStars account, they did a promo where if your bet was going to win at 79:59 minutes, and after the 80th minute, a goal went against you, your stake would be refunded as SNR.
I used to back draws with this, and did quite well out of it (hence a no longer fully functional account!). So, with that logic in mind, if a game was a draw at 79 minutes, lay it on the cheap as odds will be short, and cross everything you’ve got. Might be worth looking at some past matches and seeing what sort of hit rate you’ll get?
November 24, 2019 at 8:27 pm #14949CaanModeratorLaying the draw is the oldest Betfair strategy going I think…
It’ll never completely die out as the markets aren’t built around people laying the draw, they’re built around betting. However, I don’t think it’s as effective as it used to be.
If you want to know how to lay the draw successfully then you’re best spending a lot of time looking at the different periods of time within a football match. Time decay speeds price movement at the end of a game although it also reduces the time you have for a goal to go in. Also as others have said – you’ll need to watch the game.
I wasn’t aware of that, L0U. Great shout out. If anyone should see any other offers like this in the future then please do feel free to tip everyone else off on the forum. After all, it’s why we’re all here!
Some great content on the forums recently. Let us know how it goes if you’re using lay the draw strategy.
November 25, 2019 at 6:02 pm #14999L0UMemberGoing through the Daily Calendar, The Pools seem to do a similar offer that someone could pull the same trick on… The Pools 80th Minute Refund Up To £20 (Carabao Cup)
November 26, 2019 at 12:59 pm #15038OliviaMemberSo I have to lay the draw on a game at 80 minutes or later and back with the bookmaker and I will get a free bet if it goes against me?
November 26, 2019 at 3:35 pm #15062L0UMemberHi Olivia, I don’t think that will work as the back bet will need to be put on before the match with the bookies. What I looked for is if the teams in a match were closely priced (so, Team A and Team B not obvious who’s the favourite or the underdog) and then targetting those matches. Sorry for the confusion!
The ‘lay the draw’ described above is something done standalone, in the exchange only. Watching the game, and if the score is a draw late in the game (80th minute ish) then just lay the draw then, and hope before the game ends, a goal will be scored.
November 27, 2019 at 3:14 pm #15121grant9MemberYou’re forward thinking Lou I like it! I tried lay the draw strategy on Smarkets in the past and it worked well but could not control my discipline so easy. I think you have to not like the teams you are doing it on if you want to win!
